Whether or not you have starting building your skill, the Alexa Skills Challenge: In-Skill Purchasing Slack Workspace is the perfect place to connect with other developers!
Not only can you bounce ideas off each other and ask other developers for technical help, but you can also use the Slack Workspace to ask the Devpost and Amazon representatives questions!
Looking for a team? The #teams channel can help you connect with other developers who are potential teammates. (You can also search the challenge Participants Page to message other participants)
BONUS TECH TIP: Oscar Merry, co-creator with team member Jess Williams, took home the prize for Best Multimodal Experience integrating In-Skill Purchases, Guess My Name, in the Alexa Skills Challenge: Multimodal. He wanted to share these brief tips with his fellow devs to help you make a winning skill!
1) Think about how you and your team are going add fresh content to your skill going forward, and try and build in a system for doing this that doesn't require an update from a developer - for example check out this Jovo Google Sheets Integration.
2) Understanding your users prior behaviour with your skill is key to returning responses that contextually make sense - for example, you shouldn't give long responses for users that are regular users. To achieve this, think about what key events you want to track within your skill, and where you will store this data so that you can easily access it to enable you to build optimum responses.
Do you have a tip you’d like to share with your fellow devs? Be sure to share it in the Slack Workspace we know they’ll appreciate it!
If you have any questions about the hackathon, please post on the discussion forum.
